“Leaving Universal Studios feeling absolutely humbled because I couldn’t fit on a ride and the ride attendant told me he was really sorry, but the Japanese have a smaller build.”

Despite the initial humiliation, the ride employee was empathetic and offered Yesi and her husband fast passes to other attractions they could enter.

These passes allowed them to avoid long lines and enjoy attractions appropriate for their size. The woman’s story generated a wave of comments of support and solidarity from other TikTok users.

Some TikTok users shared similar experiences, expressing their surprise and disappointment at being turned away from attractions due to their size.

One of them commented that he would never recover emotionally from a situation like that. This shows that this incident resonates with many people who have faced discrimination.

Universal Studios Japan has not commented on the specific incident, but many fans hope that the attention generated by this story will prompt a reflection on the access policies and protocols at its attractions.

Public reaction on social networks

  • @Piper: My brother couldn’t even ride a Tokyo Disney attraction, they said he was too tall 😂
  • @QueenLuna: I had an assistant who half jumped to push the bar down on my legs 😭 I have never been so humble in my life
  • @Mara Byleth: When I lived in Okinawa, I went to a clothing store and found some pants that were SLIGHTLY too tight. I asked him for the bigger size and he said out loud: “I’m sorry, this is the biggest size in the entire store” 😭.
  • @Varzbrez: They took me off the Forbidden Journey attraction in front of everyone and it made me cry so much, then they realized I could fit anyway so they let me get on in the handicapped spot? 😭 Embarrassing either way
