The platform allows vertical videos of up to 60 seconds, and they can be recorded and edited right from the mobile app.

Contents can also use music snippets, in a shorter format, up to 15 seconds.

The feature will be available to around 25% of users in the first few days. In the coming weeks, it should be released to everyone.

Todd Sherman, product manager at Shorts, said the company’s intention with the new feature is to “fill life’s little moments” with the short videos.

YouTube had been testing Shorts since last September, when released the appeal in India. Some creators gained early access to the tool and many users were already able to browse these contents.

With its launch in Brazil, Shorts will gain more space on the YouTube app. On the home page there will be a “shelf” that will highlight some of the short videos.

They will also appear among the related videos and will have a dedicated tab, which has a browsing experience very similar to TikTok with infinite scrolling.

YouTube will allow people to make remixes and collages with audio from traditional videos, which are already on the platform and are longer than 60 seconds. The company is betting that this will be one of its competitive advantages.

The intention is that, in the future, users can make collages with video images and not just audio. The creators of the original content will be able to decide whether to allow these montages or not.
