The compilation of the best moments is an initiative that many platforms include with the aim of remembering the best moments to their users. Spotify does it at the end of the year with the most listened to songs and favorite artists. Instagram takes advantage of any moment to remind you of where you were or what you were doing years ago, just like Facebook. Social media users like to time travel for 30 seconds to reminisce about past moments. And that is why TikTok has joined this memorable trend.

Under the name of “Year on TikTok”, the new function of the platform is more similar to the format provided by Spotify. The social network wants to collect the favorite videos, trends, creators and effects of this 2020 to offer its users the opportunity to look back on a year as atypical as this one, where the social network has achieved undoubted popularity. So, the platform allows to remember some of the most special moments accompanied by laughter and creativity that overflow its users.

The individual compilation video will be in charge of showing content creators how they have captivated their followers through creativity and following the trends of Spain in 2020. December 21 is the date chosen to download this summary video which reflects the entertainment, support, surprise and education that the TikTok community has received in recent months, in addition to having the option to share it both inside and outside the platform.

On the other hand, the social network has also taken advantage of this novelty to publish a study developed by YouGov in which they reveal the surprising changes that the lives of their users have undergone in this unusual year:

Spaniards are above the European average in terms of resilience

The adaptability of Spaniards has been one of the greatest lessons we have learned this year. The situation has not been exactly easy, but we have faced it with force and without losing hope. Spain in particular has been one of the strongest countries in this regardThe results of the TikTok survey have revealed that about 60% feel they have learned to be stronger this year.

This data comes from the adaptation to the new reality. In addition, the same percentage ensures that they have surprised themselves by their ability to cope with this difficult situation that we are experiencing. If we compare this data with Europe, we discover that Spaniards feel more capable of adapting to this situation, as the European average stands at 46%, 11 points below the Spanish average.

The importance of family and friends has increased

The pandemic seemed that a priori it was going to distance us from those closest to us, but the digital world has once again shown us the advantages it can give us. In fact, we have been close to our loved ones much more than beforeIn particular, 43% of Spaniards assure that they have felt closer to their community. Not counting the 30% who have discovered new communities and support networks thanks to the massive use of the internet.

And although we have been more connected through our electronic devices, what has taken its toll on us is our lack of physical contact. About 70% of Spaniards consider that they have realized the important role that both friends and family have in their lives this year. In addition, the same percentage ensures that communities play a fundamental role in their lives. Reflection reached especially by those who are in generation Z, where 73% value these details and closeness more than before.

New hobbies driven by greater creativity

Regarding the most popular activities of Spaniards, TikTok reflects in its study that practically half of their respondents have found time to do things they couldn’t before. Here, generation Z enters again as the protagonist, since it is the age group that has focused the most on carrying out new activities. In total, there are 60% of respondents who claim to have done new activities during this year.

On the other hand, 1 in 5 respondents say that they have taken out their creative side and started to get involved in new hobbies. Here we find activities such as reading, cooking and baking or making small arrangements at home. Even sport has been encouraged in almost half of the homes. And TikTok is the proof of all these new actions, since its users have dedicated themselves to sharing it on their platform through hashtags like #FitnessEnCasa, #BookTok and the stars of the social network: #Cake shop, #Kitchen, #HomeCooking and #Cookinghacks. These latest hashtags dedicated to cooking add up to more than 20,000 million views. Although we must not forget less common trends, such as meditation, sewing or dancing.

TikTok has been a key platform in the search for these new activities. In fact, a third of those surveyed say that they were inspired by this social network to try new things, especially Gen Z. Also, according to the study, 7 out of 10 Spaniards who have started a new hobby would like to keep it in 2021 and you plan to spend more time practicing your favorite activities.

A 2021 that enters with optimism and desire

With their eyes set on the next 2021, more than half of the Spanish respondents perceive the future with optimism. Creativity will be well present in the coming year and 68% want to take advantage of the skills they have developed this year in order to get more out of their life.

“2020 has been a very challenging year for everyone, but throughout this time, lhe people in Spain have found ways to be creative and able to adapt to the most difficult moments“, says Paul Marvucic, Head of Creator & Product Marketing at TikTok. In addition, he adds that in TikTok they have been able to see this trend first-hand and hope for next year they have linked it with their new function to find that it is one of the main themes when people look back at their “Year in Review.”
