Tijuana residents are worried about the Covid vaccine, but they’re not looking for it: El Sol de Tijuana

Tijuana residents have expressed their concern after learning that there will be no booster vaccination against Covid for the general population, even if they will not seek it before winter arrives.

Lucy Cervantes arrived on Thursday at the Tijuana Health Center, located on Constitución Street in the central area, to inquire about the flu vaccine and to pick up her mother.

She was surprised to learn that health authorities do not have a program to continue applying Covid vaccines.

“It is very bad that it is no longer there, it must always be there like any other vaccine,” said the 47-year-old woman.

He said he was infected with the coronavirus in May, so he didn’t go looking for a third reinforcement and then simply forgot.

“If there isn’t in the future, we will all die,” he added.

He commented that he still wears a face mask when he leaves the house “even though they say it is no longer needed”.

Baja California Health Secretary José Medina Amarillas reported this week that he awaited the arrival of a batch of vaccines to be applied as a reinforcement against Covid-19.

But this will be intended only for the elderly and those with some comorbidities, before the arrival of winter.

The secretary also said that there is no vaccination campaign against Covid in the near future to be applied to the rest of the population.

Right now, vaccination centers are only applying the second dose to children between the ages of five and 11 and those who have no vaccine against the virus.

Georgina, another citizen who came to the Health Center to get vaccinated against tetanus after suffering an arm injury, commented that a year ago she asked for the vaccine but did not receive it because she had flu symptoms.

“I was thinking of wearing it, but I haven’t worn it since it hit me, but it’s a pity that there won’t be any more,” said Georgina.

The guard at the entrance to the Health Center commented that very few people arrive asking for the booster vaccine, which has not been available for a month.
