Tiesto Forced to Return Home on Sunday

Just three days before Super Bowl LVIII, veteran DJ Tiesto has pulled out of his slot as the show’s official DJ due to a “personal family emergency,” he announced over social media on Thursday.

“Me and my team have been preparing something truly special for months, but a personal family emergency is forcing me to return home Sunday morning,” Tiesto wrote. “It was a tough decision to miss the game, but family always comes first. Thank you to the NFL for the collaboration and looking forward to working with them to deliver something incredible together in the future!”

Plans to Replace Tiesto

A representative for the NFL stated that there is a plan to replace Tiesto, although no further details were immediately available following his announcement.

Super Bowl’s DJ Tradition

The Super Bowl has had a guest DJ during the pregame and players’ warmups in previous years, with DJ Khaled in Miami, D-Nice in Tampa Bay, Zedd in Los Angeles, and DJ Snake in Phoenix. However, this year was set to be the first time a DJ played the full game, spinning during featured breaks within the game, some of which would be televised on CBS.

Tiesto’s Initial Excitement

Just days ago, Tiesto spoke with Variety about his eagerness to perform during the game and shared his plans. Reflecting on the vast viewership, he admitted, “Two hundred million people watching? Yeah, that’s a bit of pressure. But I’m more excited than anything else. A lot of people who have never heard of Tiësto will know about me.”

Tiesto’s Musical Choices

Tiesto had planned to include the Beastie Boys’ “(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party)” among his musical lineup. The song has become Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end and Taylor Swift’s beau, Travis Kelce’s theme song. Tiesto had also expressed interest in collaborating with Taylor Swift and incorporating her music into his performance.

Tiesto’s Illustrious Career and Collaborations

Tiesto, born in the Netherlands, has maintained a prominent position within the electronic dance music scene for over three decades. Since joining the Atlantic Records roster in 2020, he has successfully engaged in high profile collaborations, including artists such as Karol G, Tate McRae, Ava Max, Ty Dolla $ign, as well as collaborations with Tears for Fears and Heidi Klum. Notably, Tiesto’s remix of “Renaissance,” the theme song for the popular series “The White Lotus,” is the only official remix.
