Tidal goes all-in on HiFi

Since 2013 The streaming service Tidal has offered its customers to listen to music in CD quality. So far, they have paid well for it: a HiFi subscription has cost SEK 199 a month, while the standard subscription Premium for SEK 99 has only had music in 320 kbit / s AAC.

As of today, however, premium customers will be able to upgrade their sound quality to full CD quality for the same SEK 99 a month as before. Tidal is thus ready for the price war in hi-fi streamingg that has been launched by most streaming services. Tidal Premium thus changes its name to Tidal HiFi.

Atmos and Sony 360

Current HiFi customers also get their subscription upgraded, to Tidal HiFi Plus. This is done with what Tidal calls “Innovative Audio Formats”. In addition to the so-called Master quality in the form of HD audio in The MQA format As has been the case so far, users will have access to spatially encoded audio in the formats Dolby Atmos and Sony 360 Reality Audio. The bit rate on Tidal HiFi Plus will be “up to 9,216 kbit / s. The price is still SEK 199 a month.

There are also a number of “softer” benefits with the Plus subscription that will be implemented in 2022. The musicians that the individual user plays the most get a larger share of the pie when royalties are paid out. You will even be able to follow how your own listening habits affect your favorite artists. And of course share their good conscience on social media.
