California surpassed 25,000 deaths from coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic, the third state to do so after New York and Texashealth officials said.

The grim milestone comes when the country’s most populous state faces a wave of coronavirus infections that has hospitals running at full capacity and nurses and doctors forced to treat more patients than usual.
