TOKYO – A miracle happened in the men’s singles badminton (sports) sport Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where Kevin Cordon can reach the semifinals. No one predicted that the badminton player from Guetemala could go this far.

Cordon also admitted that he was surprised that he was able to reach the semifinals. Cordon also felt like a child because he couldn’t stop smiling because he was able to play until he reached the semifinals.

Cordon also felt like a child while playing at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The point is that he plays with a pleasant feeling regardless of the outcome.

“I’m still happy, still smiling. Well, I was a kid, playing like a kid, having fun. Trying to do the best. Can you believe that I am in the semifinals now? This is extraordinary,” said Cordon, quoted from the official BWF website, Sunday (1/8/2021).

The pleasure Cordon felt was natural. Because the Olympics is the only event where he can meet and compete with world badminton athletes.

Cordon, who is an athlete from Guatemala, does not have the capital and assistance to be able to take part in the annual competition that is usually held by BWF. So, Gordon really took advantage of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics as a playground and channeled his love for badminton.

Cordon’s journey to reach the badminton semifinals at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics is indeed extraordinary. Unseeded but Cordon was able to beat two victories in Group C. In the round of 16 he also managed to overthrow Mark Caljouw from the Netherlands.

Then in the quarterfinals, Cordon again gave a surprise by defeating Heo Kwang-hee (South Korea) with two straight games, with a score of 21-13 and 21-18. With his slick achievement, it’s no wonder Cordon was able to reach the semifinals.

Next, Cordon will play in the semifinals against Viktor Axelsen (Denmark) on Sunday (1/8/2021) at 11.00 WIB. Axelsen will be Cordon’s toughest opponent at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

As is known, Axelsen is currently ranked second in the BWF world. Cordon’s ability will be tested in the semifinals and if he wins, the 34-year-old has a chance to donate a gold medal.
