If a PCR test is positive in Vienna, an in-depth PCR test is carried out. If this is also positive, sequencing takes place. This is an analysis method that makes it possible to discover changes in the blueprint of the virus, i.e. whether it has mutated.
Tested positive at the airport
The mutation B.1.1.7, which was first detected in Great Britain, is currently found in Vienna in up to 40 percent of all positive samples. The situation is different with the mutation, which was first detected in South Africa and is considered highly contagious.
B.1.351 has only been found three times in Vienna among people entering from South Africa, reports Radio Wien. The three people tested positive at the airport and immediately quarantined.
Contact tracing: awareness rate at 69 percent
And an environmental analysis, i.e. contact tracing, was carried out immediately to prevent further spread. The clarification rate in Vienna for contact tracing is currently 69 percent – this is the highest proportion in Austria, emphasized in the office of City Councilor for Health Peter Hacker (SPÖ).
Travel warning not binding for Tyrol
The increased occurrence of the B.1.351 mutation in Tyrol has caused heated debates between the federal government and the state of Tyrol over the past few days. There was even isolation and quarantine for the entire state. A compromise was found. The state presented its own package of measures, the federal government issued a travel warning for Tyrol.
