“Three-quarters of corona patients do not die in intensive care” Inland

This is what intensivist Diederik Gommers, chairman of the Dutch Association for Intensive Care (NVIC) and head of Erasmus MC, has told de Volkskrant.

Of the 58 patients who died of corona in the Netherlands, 14 were in intensive care, according to figures from the National Intensive Care Evaluation (NICE). The rest died in the “regular” hospital ward, at home or in the nursing home.

“If the patient is very old, has a bad heart and has had three surgeries in the past few months, the doctor may sometimes decide in consultation with the family that it is not useful to treat him in intensive care,” said Gommers.
