Three poultry farms culled in Limburg due to bird flu | Inland

The two companies that are also being culled are located within a radius of 1 kilometer from the company where the contamination was established and are of the same owner. In combination with the shared staff, the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) speaks of ‘risky contacts’, the chance of contamination is considered real. As a precaution, the animals on these two farms are therefore culled.

Four other companies that are also within 1 kilometer have had no direct contact with the infected company in Ysselsteyn (municipality of Venray). These therefore do not need to be cleared for the time being, but are examined by the NVWA for bird flu, closed and the health of the animals is monitored daily. Eight poultry farms in an area 3 kilometers from the infected farm are being tested for bird flu. A transport ban applies to 69 other companies within 10 kilometres. The ban applies to all birds and table eggs. The transport ban also applies to bird manure, used litter and other animals and animal products from poultry farms.

There is a stricter reporting obligation for keepers of laying hens, breeding stock, broilers and ducks. Poultry farmers must report sick animals in order to quickly identify bird flu infections and prevent the spread.
