Methanol poisoning is the cause. Before the corona pandemic, the gel was banned in most prisons in America. It is used to get drunk because it contains a high concentration of alcohol. But now that the corona virus has struck, prisons are using it again to fight it.
Incidentally, it is not clear under what circumstances the three died. “There is an antidote, but the sooner someone is treated for the poisoning, the greater the chance of recovery,” said Kathy Kunkel of the Department of Health of the State of New Mexico.
People who take it may also have strokes, fall into a coma, or suffer permanent nerve damage.
