Three new cases of COVID-19 are recorded in Eastern Quebec

These new cases bring the regional toll to 200 people infected since the start of the pandemic in Gaspésie and Îles-de-la-Madeleine.

The new positive tests for the new coronavirus were recorded in the MRC of Haute-Gaspésie. The Integrated Health and Social Services Center (CISSS) of Gaspésie-Iles-de-la-Madeleine confirms that this is community transmission. An epidemiological investigation is underway to identify those who have been in contact with those infected.

In addition, the region has 184 recoveries of the disease. Nine people have died from the disease in the region since the start of the pandemic.

Bas-Saint-Laurent has not recorded any new cases of COVID-19 since yesterday. His total assessment therefore remains at 66 confirmed cases. In addition, 63 people were cured of the disease, and two died from it.

The situation on the Côte-Nord remains unchanged. The toll is 126 infected people, 124 of whom are considered to have recovered. No deaths linked to the virus were recorded there.

Community transmission in Haute-Gaspésie

The Director of Public Health of the Gaspé, Dr Yv Bonnier-Viger is not surprised by this after all weak community transmission in Haute-Gaspésie.

We have evidence that the four simple steps that everyone is asked to follow have been forgotten, he reports.

There is no real mystery, we all have the power to act on this virus if we respect the four basic rules. You don’t go for a walk when you have symptoms. We respect the distance of two meters at all times with people with whom we do not live every day. We wash our hands regularly and wear the mask in public, recalls Dr Bonnier-Viger.

The director of Public Health for Gaspésie suspected that the risk of contagion would increase with the arrival of tourists.

The more people there are, the greater the risk of infection. However, it is not the increased presence of people in the territory that creates the risk, but rather the respect of the four rules, according to him. coronavirus]","text":"Qu’on soit touriste ou non, si on ne respecte pas les règles, on va avoir des infections [au coronavirus]"}}" lang="fr">Whether you are a tourist or not, if you don’t respect the rules, you will get infections [au coronavirus], he adds.

Sainte-Anne-des-Monts Hospital

In a press release, the cISS de la Gaspésie advises the population that visits are suspended until further notice at the Sainte-Anne-des-Monts Hospital for infection prevention and control measures. Spokeswoman Clémence Beaulieu Gendron says there is no outbreak of COVID-19 cases in the hospital.

Provincially, the toll now stands at 58,897 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 169 new cases. Public health also lists two additional deaths for a total of 5,670.

In addition to the two new deaths announced on Monday, Quebec also reported another that occurred before July 20.
