Three injured by gunshots after argument in Darmstadt

BAt least three people were injured in a shootout in the Kranichstein district of Darmstadt, two of them life-threatening. As the police said, at 5.15 p.m., an emergency call had been made that there was a conflict in the residential area; gunshots were heard.

The background was initially unclear in the evening. Later it was said that there were arguments between two families. More will be determined. At first, the police could not say whether victims and perpetrators lived in the residential area. At around 8:00 p.m., the officials announced the first preliminary arrests. Three men in two cars had been put in, one car stopped by officials in nearby Büttelborn, another in Darmstadt. It remained open in the evening whether there were further arrests or injuries. The police had previously spoken of a possible fourth victim. However, this information was not later confirmed or denied.

“Dynamic” process

The crime scene is located in a quiet part of Kranichstein with single-family houses, not in the newer, predominantly high-rise area. A section of the narrow road several hundred meters long in the area near riding stables and meadows was cordoned off. Police experts secured traces. The crime took about 300 meters along Parkstrasse; a police spokeswoman called the process “dynamic”. Perpetrators and victims are said to have walked down the street. Onlookers photographed the scenery with their cell phones.
