Three Cubans among Forbes’ 75 Featured Latinas in 2024

Forbes magazine launched a list of the 75 Latina Women to Follow in 2024, that is, outstanding women who could surprise this year, which included three Cuban artists.

The news was announced during the presentation ceremony of the list of the 75 Latin women to follow in 2024, held on January 18 at the Santo Mauro hotel in Madrid.

Those selected from the Island are related to the arts, although in different disciplines, two related to the plastic arts and one to classical dance: the Havana painter Rachel Valdés Camejo; Ella Fontanals-Cisneros, art collector; and Glenda León, passionate about classical ballet and the plastic arts.

Those selected from the Island are related to the arts, and share space with businesswomen, artists, athletes and scientists.

In the case of Valdés, also known for being the ex-girlfriend of the Spanish singer Alejandro Sanz, her work covers various manifestations such as painting, sculpture, installation and photography, and has resonated internationally.

Forbes highlights Valdés’ achievements, highlighting his public art projects, some of which were presented at the Havana Biennials. His work is also part of private and public collections, including The Donald Rubin Foundation, in New York; The Rockefeller Brothers Foundation, in New York; Pérez Museum (PAMM) in Miami; and the Calosa Foundation, in Mexico.

Ella Fontanals-Cisneros began collecting art in the early 1970s, with a primary interest in works from Latin America. In the following years, and as the collection grew, its scope expanded, so that it began as the acquisition of works of art for personal enjoyment, matured into an ambitious life project.

For her part, Glenda León is a Cuban artist born in Havana in 1976, whose work has received awards such as The Pollock-Krasner Foundation Award and residencies such as the Couvent des Recollets, in Paris, and the Fonderie Darling, in Montreal.

Rachel Valdés Camejo, dressed in an elegant white dress, participated in the event and shared moments of the ceremony in which the list was announced on her networks. On her Instagram account, she expressed her gratitude to Forbes magazine for this significant recognition.
