The police arrested three people on Tuesday for allegedly defrauding donors during the corona crisis. It concerns a 58-year-old man, his 55-year-old wife and his 30-year-old daughter. The trio from Alphen aan den Rijn is suspected of embezzlement, fraud and money laundering.
The police raided the man’s house on Tuesday morning and arrested the three there, the Public Prosecution Service reported on Thursday. These would be people who were often seen at corona demonstrations. The OM cannot confirm that.
The man and his daughter are directors of the BPOC 2020 foundation, which they set up. That foundation is said to be conducting research into the approach to the corona crisis. Donations to the foundation would contribute to those investigations.
But instead, the money that donors donated to the foundation was used by them for private expenses, the OM says. The man’s wife is suspected of involvement in this.
Man used doctorandus title wrongly
Among other things, the founders promised a report on “shocking stories in the police”. That report never came. Other reports, which people could read for a fee, were widely criticized by scientists. It would only contain assumptions.
BOPC 2020 has already been discredited because the man wrongly used a PhD title. That is illegal in our country.
The three suspects are in custody. This means that they may only have contact with their lawyer.
