The district of rue du Port in Marchienne-au-Pont was completely surrounded by security forces this Saturday evening, for more or less 21 hours.
Residents, worried, wondered why such a police device was put in place. Some witnesses described “hooded and armed police officers”, the “presence of the GSA” (intervention group of the Charleroi police), but also “a fully enclosed street with a pump” … At rue de l’Écluse, rue du Port but also Providence, the presence of the police was relayed by the inhabitants.
Contacted by us, the spokesman for the Charleroi police, David Quinaux, corroborated this major police intervention. “This is a police service to prevent any incident between two rival biker gangs.” A new biker club has been opened, which is not to the taste of a rival gang.
The spokesman added that the Hells Angels were one of the biker groups involved.
As of this writing, operations are still underway and no further information will be released by Charleroi police on Saturday.
