Threatened to be uprooted, 22 trees in Place de Saint-André-de-Sangonis ask for help

The neighborhood committees give them a voice. In the coming weeks, about twenty trees will be uprooted for a rehabilitation project of the town square, proposed by the mayor of Saint-André-de-Sangonis.

“Lhe municipality of Saint-André wants to kill us, exterminate us, under the pretext of developing the square! Help us, we will give you shade, oxygen, how are you going to do without us? ” sings the messages displayed on the trunks asking for help in the name of the trees. It is the cry of the heart that emanates from some inhabitants of the small town.

As Radio Pays d’Hérault points out on its Twitter account, anger is growing around the future city center of Saint-André-de-Sangonis.

Opponents of the uprooting of the 22 trees envisaged in the square’s redevelopment project are appalled. Are complaining “no consultation prior to this decision” by the Municipality, which did not transmit the results of the studies carried out on the health of the trees in question.

We don’t even know if they are sick or not. If they are, we are willing but for the moment nothing tells us that this is the case!

Opposing the plan to cut down trees

In response, Jean-Pierre Gabaudan, mayor of Saint-André-de-Sangonis, suspended the development project of the square for a few weeks, the time to ask for a new health report on the sick trees.

A landscape study had already shown that several trees were affected by the canker spot, which could be dangerous for the population.

While acknowledging that a lack of communication could interfere between the inhabitants and the town hall, Jean-Pierre Gabaudan reiterates his desire to restore the discussion.

We will all work together so that the project is well understood and well perceived, so that it is the beautiful project of the Saint-Andréen!

One thing is certain, the city hall remains willing to remove the diseased trees but is committed to doing so “replant all trees that will be removed”.
