Florian Neuhaus: Overcoming Injury and Returning to Starting Eleven for SC Freiburg vs Borussia Mönchengladbach

He wasn’t used to that for a long time: Florian Neuhaus (r.) recently had to sit on the bench again and again, like here on September 17, 2023 in Darmstadt.

Things just never went really well for the foals in Breisgau recently!

Next Saturday (November 4th, 3:30 p.m.) Borussia Mönchengladbach will be visiting SC Freiburg on matchday 10 of the Bundesliga and would like to not only improve on the double success against Heidenheim in the league and cup with a win, but also break the away curse in Breisgau.

A professional also has no positive memories of the Europa Park Stadium. Florian Neuhaus (26) was seriously injured in Freiburg more than a year ago. Now his coach Gerardo Seoane (45) commented on this and also spoke about a potential starting eleven for the 26-year-old.

Gladbach coach: Seoane talks about his playmaker

Florian Neuhaus has experienced a season with many ups and downs at Borussia Mönchengladbach so far. After extending his contract by three years until 2027 in the summer, he was promoted to vice-captain together with Julian Weigl (28). He was also given the number ten on his back, which legends like Günter Netzer (79) once wore.

All of these should be signs that the ex-national player is a force to be reckoned with. After three starting eleven appearances at the beginning of the season, Neuhaus was no longer anything but set. Although he scored important goals in Darmstadt, Bochum and at home against Mainz, he was only on the bench in the league game against Heidenheim.

Now the guest appearance at SC Freiburg is coming up next Saturday. However, Neuhaus probably doesn’t have fond memories of the last time in Breisgau. At that time, he suffered partial damage to his cruciate ligament in the goalless draw on September 11, 2022 and was out for the rest of the year.

As a result, the 26-year-old no longer really got going under Daniel Farke (47) and was unable to build on his old form. He repeatedly shuttled between the bench and the starting eleven. Before his injury he was almost always a candidate for the starting eleven, but that has changed since then.

The away game in Freiburg – for Florian Neuhaus it was the beginning of a long period of suffering. The Landsberg native has only been out for a longer period of time in his career so far. During his youth career at TSV 1860 Munich, he had to take a 105-day break due to an injury.

This is also why the topic of the injury came up in the course of the upcoming duel on Saturday. After all, it is not unlikely that such a serious injury will come back to haunt a player. Furthermore, the year that followed was anything but easy for Neuhaus.

When asked about this at the press conference before the game, Seoane expressed no major concerns: “We all carry our memories with us. Of course it’s positive if there are good memories. In that case, I don’t think it will affect the player.”

Neuhaus could therefore be an option for the starting eleven again for the game against Freiburg. According to Seoane, the competitors in his position have recently done well. Since Manu Kone (22) still has to serve the second game of his derby ban and will therefore not be available after his starting eleven in the cup, the 26-year-old could slip into the team for the Frenchman.
