‘Thousands in financial uncertainty brought by the Tax and Customs Administration blacklist’

The Fraud Signaling Facility (FSV) was used from 2012 to March 2020. The system was discontinued after investigations found that it violated people’s privacy. Personal data was kept for too long and too many employees of the Tax and Customs Administration had access to the system. The Dutch Data Protection Authority published one last month damning report and is still investigating whether the tax authorities can be fined.

In total, more than 240,000 people were registered in it. After a motion by Member of Parliament Marijnissen (SP), it was promised that they would be informed about this, so that they could, for example, request their file. A registration in some cases resulted in someone being rejected for a payment arrangement or debt restructuring process.
