Thought it was gold, it turns out this man found a 4.6 billion year old meteorite stone

Back in 2015, David Hole was looking for gold at Maryborough Regional Park near Melbourne, Australia. But what he got, he actually found a lump of rock that was mistaken for gold. The stone was then stored and left to dust for the next six years.

Then, the mystery of the stone was solved after he brought it to the Melbourne Museum. Thought to be a lump of gold, the object turned out to be a rare meteorite. The meteorite fell in Australia after traveling through space.

Dermot Henry, a Melbourne Museum geologist, said how in 37 years of working in the area, he had only discovered two genuine meteorites.

“This is the original 17th meteorite found in Victoria, among thousands of gold nuggets. Looking at the sequence of events, this finding is very astronomical,” said Dermot Henry as quoted by Liputan6.com from Mirror.co.uk, Friday (3/3). /12/2021).

“This rock has carvings and hollows that formed when it passed through the atmosphere. When the rock surface melted, the atmosphere carved it,” he added.
