Those affected by squatting in Zaragoza will have at their disposal a telephone number attended by the Bar Association

The mayor of Zaragoza, Jorge Azcón, and the dean of the Zaragoza Bar Association, Antonio Morán, signed a collaboration agreement to provide legal assistance to individuals and communities of owners affected by the illegal squatting of real estate. A problem that, in the words of the councilor, “not only affects the owners of the houses, but also the other residents of the property.”

The agreement contemplates the setting up a telephone and an email to assist the injured, to which technical advice will be given. The amount contributed by the Zaragoza City Council is 20.000 euros, although the figure will be reviewable, and will last for two years. “We want to be able to improve the contribution in the coming months,” said Azcón, who stressed that “The professionals of the College will be in contact with the social services of the City Council” in order to meet the needs of those who remain on the street.

The dean of the Bar Association, Antonio Morán, has influenced this last point: “Since the conversations began, it was always valued that the advice was comprehensive for all the people affected by this phenomenon. For this reason, to people with means economic nulls who enter a home will be facilitated access to free justice, so that they can have a lawyer. ” The owner may also have free justice if he needs it. “Our goal is to achieve a more comfortable and fairer city”, has summarized Morán.

For his part, the Minister of Urban Planning, Víctor Serrano, has pointed out that “not only the tenant can be vulnerable, since we see how elderly people who with great effort bought a second home with whose rent they supplement their pension now suffer this phenomenon”. Serrano has limited the problem to the less affluent areas of the city.
