Thomas Mann´s Los Angeles: Stories from Exile 1940-1952 – book presentation & discussion – 28.03. Munich

Munich is the largest book metropolis in Europe. Literature occupies an important position in this city. In June 1997, the important role of literature also manifested itself in a spatial and geographical sense: the Munich Literature House was opened in the heart of Munich on the historic Salvatorplatz.

Since then, the Literaturhaus München has been open to all those interested in literature and culture. International bestsellers are presented here alongside texts by young authors. There is just as much space here for controversial discussions of current political and cultural topics as for prose, pop and poetry. As the center of literary life, the house offers around five exhibitions, 150 readings, discussions and talks, conferences, seminars and workshops a year, space for approaches to authors and their books, picks up on new cultural trends and repeatedly opens up dialogue with the public.

A house for literature is a center for public events related to books. A meeting point for writers, publishers, booksellers and journalists. An important facility for the further training of employees in the book trade, a lively forum for all writers and readers that picks up on current affairs as well as fundamental issues in the literature and media scene.
