Qualcomm has announced the FastConnect 6900 and 6700, chipsets for smartphones with support for WiFi 6th and Bluetooth 5.2. The chipsets will be released in the second half of this year, after which smartphone manufacturers can integrate them into devices.

The FastConnect 6900 chipset offers according to Qualcomm WiFi speeds of up to 3.6Gbit / s. The chipset comes to such speeds thanks to the support for wifi 6th. The Wi-Fi Alliance announced the e-extension to wifi 6, or the 802.11ax protocol, at the beginning of this year. The extension allows devices to deploy the 6GHz frequency band in addition to the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.

According to Qualcomm, the FastConnect 6900 can use multiple frequency bands simultaneously, including 6GHz, with four streams. FastConnect 6700 lacks that support for dual band simultaneous and this is partly due to a maximum WiFi speed of 3Gbit / s. Both chipsets support a channel width of 160MHz. Qualcomm has the chipsets produced at 14nm.

The chipsets also support bluetooth 5.2. The main improvement that this standard brings is the arrival of LE Audio. It uses the lc3 codec for high quality audio with little complex calculations, which should bring a reduction in consumption. A smartphone with the chipset can also send audio to multiple speakers and headphones and there is also a broadcast option.
