This year, bacterial tanning has been detected in three places in Latvia – in Dobele, Nīca and Daugavpils counties. Bacterial flares are currently being destroyed and the movement of bee colonies in certain buffer zones is prohibited.

This year, the State Plant Protection Service (VAAD) has inspected ornamental nurseries, markets and fairs in more than 1,000 inspections, as well as inspections in horticultural centers, parks, home gardens and commercial gardens.

Six plants were found to have a dangerous plant quarantine disease – bacterial inflammation.

“As this year is warm and humid, these are the conditions that the bacterium likes to develop. These six samples were taken in three different places. One sample is in Dobele, where there is last year’s focus, two samples are in Nīca region and three in Daugavpils region. , where bacterial inflammation has never been detected before, “said VAAD specialist Gunita Šķupele.

In Dobele and Nīca counties, phytosanitary measures have already been applied, as a result of which several apples, pears and hawthorns have been eliminated, as well as decisions are being made on the necessary measures in Daugavpils municipality.

“At the moment, it is difficult to say how this bacterium got to the specific places. But it spreads with the help of both wind and insects. In these places, where the disease is detected in the designated 3-kilometer buffer zone, bee colonies bees can also carry this bacterium.

Meanwhile, VAAD expert Evelīna Freimane pointed out that last week rainy and warm weather conditions throughout the country have contributed to the spread of various diseases in gardens and crops.

“The prevalence of diseases is not the same throughout Latvia.

There are places where potato leaf rot is more common now, where dry spots are more common.

However, the general trend is that brown spots are common in field beans last week. On the other hand, in the case of winter cereals, where grain ripening is still taking place, there are ear puzurioze, black soot, black grain, but in the case of summer wheat sowings, grass meal is more common. In turn, small spots are common in berries, rot and scab are spread in apples and pears, “said Freimane.

In eight cases, inspectors have responded to calls from residents to check for signs of disease in plants in backyard gardens, and VAAD calls for reporting any damage to plants in backyard gardens or other greenery.
