HISTORIANS best achievement in norwegian athletics came right between wind and trembling hurdles in Stockholm:
- Then Karsten Warholm ran 400 meters hurdles at 46.87.
It is 0.09 seconds behind the American Kevin Young’s world record. It was set in the Olympic final in Barcelona in 1992; that is, four years before Karsten was born.
Young’s record is it eldest of athletics’ world records on track. Let us be very clear:
- In this sport, such birthdays are nothing to celebrate.
Its older records, its more questionable are they. Although Young is not at all one of the sport’s most suspicious heroes.
But right now that’s not the point. For now, honest, proper Karsten Warholm is able to delete all ancient times anytime.
And who would have thought it about a young, Norwegian ten-fighter six seasons ago when the talk in the environment was that hopeless Norway sent far too large troops to international athletics championships and just the junior Karsten Warholm was allowed to run 400 meter.
He picks up the dopers
FOR a year and a half ago, Karsten Warholm and the world record in the 400 meter hurdles were nothing to speak of either. Then the distance had two much bigger names, even though Karsten after the change from 10-match to hurdles had managed to win a sensational World Cup gold.
Before the 2018 season, other names were hotter. Both Rai Benjamin and Abderrahman Samba were ranked clearly ahead.
The one year younger American Benjamin had managed 47.02 the summer before. With his extreme physique was seen as a greater talent than a slightly older Samba, despite the fact that the latter at the time with 46.98 was the only one who had been under 47 blank after Kevin Young’s record in 1992:
Warholm with a new personal record
– The two just have to concentrate on running and forget about it with records. Don’t even think about that, to Young at the start of that season.
The record holder himself was sure that his historic time from the 1992 Barcelona Olympics would be beaten during that summer:

Warholm amazes
PEEKING you behind the top result, the progress was even more clear. That season, Karsten had the whole five races under 48 blank. It’s great of an athlete who started 2018 with a personal record of 48.22. He ran seven times faster than that, while the focus was on Benjamin and Samba.
That is exactly what ended last year. Iodine; strong Rai Benjamin was very close to Karsten in the World Cup final. The two will certainly beat each other in the coming seasons. But at the moment, the Norwegian is the strongest.
THE is probably due to Karsten’s extreme stability. The sport has not experienced the like in the 400 meter hurdles.
Again, there is reason to look at his five best times in the 2019 season. While the personal record was pushed down to 46.92 during the Diamond League competition in Zurich (the second fastest race in history), he clocked 47.12 (London), 47.26 (Paris), 47.42 (World Cup in Qatar) and 47 , 43 (NM at Hamar).
It gives five top races within approx. half a second with a completely stable development from the five best races in the 2018 season of between 0.72 and 0.49 seconds.
SUCH consistency builds great sports careers. So far in the weird 2020 season, there have been two starts and two top times in international fields where the competitors are far, far behind ..

Today’s is so good, it’s hard to explain. The wind conditions at the open stadium in Stockholm were very difficult. It blew hard on the first long side where Karsten usually does his runs.
He did it anyway. Into the sprint he lay so well, that only a touch of the last stern distinguished himself to the world record.
And all this cost no more energy than that Karsten was on the field again an hour and a half later and outclassed the Diamond League field at 400 meters flat with a winning time of 45.05; the third best result in the world this year.
THIS this time, Kevin Young understands what is about to happen. During last year, he of course brought in Karsten Warholm among his favorites.
