This War of Mine was a victim of the Chinese and Russian review bombing

According to what we wrote yesterday in messages devoted to the war in Ukraine, the native 11 bit studios overestimated the game This War of Mine along with the DLC and announced that the revenue generated by it by March 3 will go to the Ukrainian Red Cross as aid to the victims. The developer’s decision appealed to the players, thanks to which production was at the forefront of the Steam’s bestseller list.

Unfortunately, not all fans of electronic entertainment received it positively. Players from China and Russia started the so-called review of the bombing of the game on the Valve platform. Their “reviews” – written only now, often after several or several dozen hours of “fun” – they usually do not, of course, relate to what this anti-war title offers, but mix politics with video games. It is worth noting that opinions about the situation in the world are also expressed in seemingly positive comments.

The graphic below shows some examples of negative entries of this type. I deliberately chose not to translate them. I will only add that some of these “opinions” criticize the approach of native artists – as if their authors had forgotten that almost from the premiere This War of Mine DLC can be purchased, the money of which is entirely donated to charity (you will find them here).

Seeing what was happening, the rest of the community began to exhibit This War of Mine positive evaluations. These, too, have little to do with the game’s content, but at least provide some sort of balance for maintaining an optimal feedback rate. It is comforting that in order to wage a battle on Steam, representatives of both groups must have This War of Mine. Below – as a reminder – I present yesterday’s announcement from the developers of the game (original spelling):

Statement by 11 bit studios:

Today, the Russian army attacked our neighbors – free Ukraine. As a Polish studio and creators of the globally recognized anti-war game This War of Mineon the suffering and misery of civilians affected by the war, we would like to make a statement against Russian aggression. However, the words would be empty without any meaningful act in a time-critical situation. Therefore, from now on for the next seven days, all income from This War of Mine – all game versions and DLC in all digital stores on all platforms will be donated to a special fund. In a week’s time, the money will go to the Ukrainian Red Cross as direct support for the victims of the war in Ukraine.

Let this message resonate with everything you know about this war and how war is killing people, destroying their lives and their homes. Let us – players and developers standing side by side – do everything in our power to support the victims of the war in Ukraine.

Yours sincerely,

all members of the 11 bit studios team
