This Monday, the 13th, the vaccination against COVID-19 for adolescents between 12 and 15 years old begins; immunization of laggards will be in health centers | Ecuador | News

In October, children between the ages of 6 and 11 will begin to be vaccinated, announced the Minister of Health, Ximena Garzón.

During the last weekend, furniture, biologicals, equipment and medical devices were transferred to health centers nationwide to continue with the vaccination process against COVID-19.

Starting this Monday, the 13th, in the country’s health centers, the application of the first and second doses will continue to laggards over 16 years of age who have not received the COVID-19 vaccine.

These health centers have been provided with first doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine and the CanSino single-dose to care for lagging users. Likewise, second doses of Pfizer and Sinovac will be applied to those citizens who turn 28 days after being inoculated with these vaccines. In the case of AstraZeneca, the time is 64 days.

Of the 69 fixed and express vaccination points that they attended for several months in Zone 8 (Guayaquil, Durán and Samborondón), from today only 7 will be enabled. In these three cantons, 115 health centers will be operating to continue with the inoculation process against the coronavirus.

In Guayaquil they will attend five vaccination points: Mucho Lote 1, the José Joaquín de Olmedo airport, the Alberto Spencer stadium, the 25 de Julio terminal of the Metrovía and the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Guayaquil. In Durán the Convention Center will be enabled, on Loja Street between Ambato and Yaguachi; and in Samborondón, the Humberto Andrade Solórzano Coliseum, located in the cantonal head.

In Quito, the Bicentennial Convention Center and the Pichincha Provincial Council Superior Institute are the vaccination centers that will continue to operate as of today.

It was indicated that each zonal coordination must establish the vaccination points that will remain enabled for this process.

Currently, the vaccination plan against the coronavirus is in the ‘We reactivate’ phase, according to the schedule stipulated by the Ministry of Public Health (MSP). On Wednesday, September 1, the central government announced that 9 million people had been vaccinated against the virus, before the first 100 days of administration.

This Monday, the 13th, the vaccination process against COVID-19 for adolescents between 12 and 15 years old begins.

Ximena Garzón, Minister of Health, said that the health centers will integrate vaccination brigades that will go to schools and colleges in coordination with the directors of each educational unit who already carry out their activities in a blended way.

For the establishments that continue in virtual mode, the Ministry of Public Health will allocate dates for the students to attend their respective academic institution on the day they are visited by the brigades.

The minister explained that adolescents between the ages of 12 and 15 will only receive the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine. For minors who have aggravating diseases or immunodeficiency, it is recommended to apply the second dose after 21 days.

What will be the new vaccination points against the coronavirus

Garzón reiterated that a single dose of the vaccine is sufficient for adolescents between 12 and 15 years old, but suggested that they be given a booster after six months. The official made this observation to prevent minors from being at risk of possible myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle).

He added that the vaccination for this age range will last until the end of next October.

“And that month we started with children from 6 to 11 years old, which we plan to cover in November. We are still collecting scientific information that allows us to vaccinate children under 6 years, from 3 years. We already have some evidence of safety, especially with Sinovac, and we will do so because, as you may have seen, there is an outbreak of (the variant) delta in the US that affects mostly pediatric patients. Hospitals are collapsed with children. We must protect them from this virus, ”Garzón said in an interview with EL UNIVERSO. (I)
