This is what the “Trap” looked like 50 years ago

Plovdiv photographer Nikola Lautliev posts wonderful photos on Facebook. The shots come from the “Trap”, which today is one of the most artistic places in the city. Surely the photos will evoke nostalgia for the older generation.

I forgot. It was a long time ago, I photographed the Trap. I walked slowly and aimlessly. Today, nearly 50 years later, the slides have spilled out clipped from a yellowed envelope. It wasn’t captioned and the surprise of the photos after scanning them reminded me of the movie Hook and the Joy of Glass Balls. How little we need at this age. A dozen photos forgotten in a yellowed envelope“, Lautliev wrote to his publication.

The “Kapana” neighborhood has become one of the most visited places in Plovdiv by tourists. It is also a place of relaxation for many Plovdiv residents. Born in the past as a center of craftsmen around the Kurshum Khan (on the site of today’s Central Halls), the district is a peculiar tangle of narrow streets that bear appropriate names: Zhelezarska, Kozhuharska, Abadjiyska, Zlatarska, etc. The most famous attractions of the neighborhood are the Jumaya Mosque, the Roman Stadium, the Old City. For several years Kapana has been transformed into a creative industries district, with several annual festivals held there.
