This is the biggest risk factor for tuberculosis according to doctors

Tuberculosis is one of the potentially serious infectious diseases.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Pulmonary specialist at Siloam Hospitals Makassar, Dr Adrianne Marissa Tauran, said the biggest risk factor for tuberculosis (TB) is smoking. He called the main enemy of lung health is cigarettes.

“Cigarettes directly and indirectly can cause tuberculosis, which through a decrease in body resistance, damages lung function. So smokers are required to immediately change their lifestyle by quitting smoking,” said Adrianne through a press release in Jakarta, Sunday (27/3/ 2022).

Tuberculosis, he said, is a potentially serious infectious disease. This disease can occur in various organs of the body, but often attacks the lungs.

The bacteria that cause tuberculosis transmitted from one person to another through tiny airborne droplets released through the cough and sneeze. To prevent the transmission of tuberculosis, the community must implement clean and healthy living behaviors. Also consume nutritious food because if the immune system is lacking, it will be more easily exposed to tuberculosis compared to people with good immune systems.

Don’t forget to always wear a mask or cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing in order to avoid transmission and the patient does not spit anywhere. “But it should also be noted that not all sufferers TB it must have symptoms of cough, shortness of breath, coughing up blood, must lose weight, must experience weakness,” said the doctor who is familiarly called Doctor Anke.

In general, according to him, a good immune system can prevent someone from contracting tuberculosis. In the case of a child who has TB, he said, the child does not transmit tuberculosis because the child has not been able to splash through coughing or sneezing that can be expelled.

According to him, cases of tuberculosis are quite curable. The treatment is sufficient within six months under normal conditions, which is divided into two stages, namely the initial phase, treatment for two months by taking medication every day. Meanwhile, for the advanced phase, he said, the treatment is for four months, by taking medication one day at a time.
