Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Indonesia’s car sales rose in 2021. Previously car sales were sluggish due to the Covid-19 pandemic which suppressed the economy in 2020.
This is as an impact relaxation of Sales Tax on Luxury Goods (PPnBM) for cars. This facility is used by consumers to buy new cars with discounts of up to tens of millions.
According to data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), car sales wholesales or distribution from factories to dealers grew 66% year-on-year (yoy) to 887,202 units.
The car of a million Avanza people was named the best-selling car in Indonesia in 2021. Had bounced from the top 10 best-selling cars in October, Avanza closed the book with sales of 66,109 units throughout 2021.
Avanza sales in 2021 grow 85% year-on-year compared to 2020. Releasing a new model is a powerful weapon to win the hearts of Indonesian car lovers.
In second place is the Xpander whose sales reached 54,624 units throughout 2021. The Mitsubishi Motors car managed to grow 107% yoy compared to 2020.
Meanwhile, Carry managed to rank third for the best-selling car in 2021. The pick-up car sold 52,854 units throughout the year. This number is growing 39% compared to 2020.
In rank four and five occupied by Rush and Innova. The second achievement in 2021 was 52,553 and 49,745 units were sold. Sales of Toyota’s cars managed to shoot up 79% and 80% in 2021 compared to 2020.

- Daihatsu Sigra: 40,283 units, grew 73%,
- Toyota Calya: 35,375, tumbuh 51%,
- Mitsubishi Fuso FE: 32.828, tumbuh 71%
- Honda Brio Satya: 29.976, tumbuh 0%
- Mitsubishi L300: 26,335, grew 64%
