Direct injection is not an ideal choice for LPG

Let’s first quickly outline why gasoline direct injection engines are not very suitable for converting to LPG. The fuel injectors are in the combustion chamber exposed to high temperatures, during operation their cooling is provided by injected gasoline. That is why LPG systems often maintain simultaneous petrol injection even when running on LPG, the economy of operation is understandably not as advantageous as when running purely on gas.

However, the economic side of the matter is not the only complication of the joint “coexistence” of gas and direct gasoline injection, on the contrary, there are significantly more technical ones. Designers and manufacturers of contemporary however, modern engines prefer direct gasoline injection for many reasons, thus finding a “compatible” engine for problem-free conversion to LPG is increasingly difficult. However, we should have one solution, and it is, paradoxically, from one of the best engine manufacturers in the world – the Japanese Toyota.

This is because the 1.8 Valvematic engine retained indirect gasoline injection, and companies involved in the conversion of engines to LPG absolutely love this unit. You can find it, among other things, in your favorite Avensis up to the year of production 2018, where it has a power of 147 hp, as in the first and second generation Auris. A cheaper version of the 1.6 Valvematic is also available in both models, but if you can choose, go for the more powerful version, as fuel consumption is almost the same for both versions.
