Microsoft will close all its physical stores worldwide

In 2010, Microsoft made the decision to open its own stores throughout the world, mainly in response to the same Apple policy with its Apple Stores. As with many stores and businesses, this one closed due to COVID-19, and 10 years and 83 stores later Microsoft has made the decision that these don’t reopen your doors.

This decision is mainly motivated by the great boom in digital sales in recent years, and although it is possibly an intelligent decision at the business level for the future of the company, it will mean a loss of 450 million dollars in the last quarter of your fiscal year.

Microsoft will offer new digital services for its customers

According to Microsoft itself, its strategy for the future will focus on online sales channels, also supporting Xbox and Windows stores around the world. Its thousands of workers have been transferred to other online support positions so that despite the closure of stores they will continue to work at the Redmond company.

In support of this transition to “digital” Microsoft has announced the creation of new services to help customers in a personalized way, such as support with 1: 1 video chat, online video tutorials and virtual workshops with many branches to deal with.

Despite this decision and the losses it will entail, it must be remembered that Microsoft is on the rise, and that in the first nine months of its fiscal year it obtained a net profit of 33,079 million dollars (29,495 million euros), 27% higher of its earnings for the same period of the previous year, while its turnover increased by 14%, to 104,982 million dollars (93,609 million euros).
