“This Is Not an Embassy” uses three amateur actors, a former ambassador to a foreign country, an NGO civil society leader, and a cutting-edge artist, to simulate the actual opening of Taiwan’s embassy and diplomatic work in theater spaces in various countries, triggering viewers to think about Taiwan’s special situation. The play started a global tour in Berlin, Germany, in January this year. When it was performed in Vienna in March, Ambassador to Austria Zhang Xiaoyue went to watch it and communicated with Wu Jianguo after the performance. The play attracted widespread attention in Austria, and the troupe was able to accurately and emotionally interpret the play. Both felt gratified by presenting Taiwan’s diplomatic story. With the support of the Ministry of Culture and the Taiwan Cultural Center in France, this play is a collaboration between the National Theater and the Theater Vitti in Lausanne. It will be performed in Switzerland until March 24, becoming the highlight of the festival. After Switzerland, they will perform in Taiwan in April; they will also tour in Spain, the Czech Republic and other countries.
