this health hazard that threatens the country – La Nouvelle Tribune

The French metropolis is worried. Indeed, the presence of tiger mosquitoes poses more and more problems for the authorities. Recently, an elected LREM from Mayotte also decided to warn, believing that colonization was likely to continue and increase in the years to come. Tiger mosquitoes are carriers of diseases, such as the zika virus, dengue or even chikungunya.

On Tuesday, a commission of inquiry within the National Assembly was very clear. According to the elected officials participating, concrete actions must be quickly put in place. As the rapporteur reminds us Ramlati Ali, elected LREM of Mayotte, there was no tiger mosquito in France in 2004. Today, no less than 58 departments out of 96 have been invaded by this species, which takes advantage of stagnant water to proliferate and attack.

Tiger mosquitoes, a new health hazard

Today, the country must therefore learn to live with these new risks and above all, new diseases. Epidemics, in Overseas France for example, are more and more recurrent and above all, more and more virulent. In fact, no less than 46 proposals were unveiled by the commission in charge of this investigation, in order to help the country to better arm itself against these health risks.

The threat, taken seriously

First point, the diversification of actions. To date, the government has only one insecticide, deltamethrin. While this pesticide is useful and effective, it should not be abused for environmental reasons. Then the mosquito might get used to it and develop resistance. Next, the Assembly calls for better information and more active prevention, especially in the places most affected.
