This has been the solar eclipse that has darkened several countries in South America | International

The solar eclipse, which has obscured several countries in South America, has reached land in Chile at 11:40 a.m. local time (3:40 p.m. in Spain). The southern part of the country has been able to see this event in its entirety, which has also occurred in parts of Argentina.

The shadow has entered Chile through the municipality of Saavedra, in the region of La Araucanía, about 800 kilometers from Santiago and where 100% darkness has been reached at 12:58 local time (16:58 in Spain) , although rains and clouds have conditioned the visibility of the phenomenon, as some users have shared on social networks.

Described by NASA as a “celestial coincidence”, this stellar event has been partially observed in several countries of the continent, such as Peru, Bolivia, Uruguay or Paraguay, but only in Chile and Argentina has it been done at night in broad daylight. In fact, more than 100,000 tourists have traveled to the Chilean towns of Pucón and Villarica to see the event, which it will not be repeated in these regions until 2048.

However, Chile already experienced a total solar eclipse in July 2019, visible from its desert to the north and that had not happened since 1592, according to the Chilean Astronomy Society, which recalled that, to look towards the eclipse, it was necessary to protect the eyes with special glasses for it.
