Four new iPhones
The iPhone 12 would have four different models. Just like last year, a regular model, the Pro variant and the larger Pro Max appear. The regular iPhone 12 and 12 Pro get 6.1-inch screens, while the 12 Pro Max has a 6.7-inch screen.
New would be the iPhone 12 Mini, which with a 5.4 inch screen would be smaller than recent high-end smartphones. In terms of size, the device is the same size as the recently published iPhone SEbut the borderless design makes for a bigger screen.
A new design
For the first time since the iPhone X, the design is completely overhauled. For example, the curved edges on the sides of the screen are gone. In addition, the device has a metal band around the edges.
The new design is said to be very similar to that of the iPhone 4 and 4S. It also has a lot in common with the most recent iPads Pro, which also use such a band and flattened screen.

All screens with OLED
With previous iPhones, Apple made a distinction in the screen technology used. Last year, for example, the iPhone 11 a traditional LCD, while the more expensive iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max were equipped with a higher-quality OLED display.
This should change with the iPhone 12. All three phones are equipped with OLED, even the cheapest phones.
Higher refresh rate
According to insiders, the iPhone 12 screen also has a faster refresh rate. 120 frames can be displayed per second, twice as much as with the current iPhones. This should ensure smoother animations.
It is not yet clear which models will get this screen. With Android phones, the higher refresh rate is often limited to the Pro models, something that Apple can also choose.
Smaller notch
The notch above the screen, also known as the ‘notch’, would be slightly smaller with the iPhone 12. It contains the selfie camera and sensors used for facial recognition. In terms of technology, almost nothing would change, but Apple has made the equipment used a bit more compact.
The difference would only be small: it is noticeable if you hold an iPhone X, XS or 11 next to an iPhone 12.
Touch ID below the screen
The iPhone 12, like its predecessors, has facial recognition, but in addition, another identification method would return: the fingerprint scanner. This time it is under the screen, so you only see it when a button is shown on the screen.
This allows users to choose different verification options and the chance that you have to enter a code is also smaller. After all, if you cannot scan your face, you can still perform a faster finger scan.

Three more cameras
In terms of cameras, not much would change: Apple would again use three lenses on the back of the device. An improved sensor ensures that photos with a resolution of 64 megapixel are taken.
There is a LIDAR sensor next to the cameras that helps estimate depth for, for example, augmented reality. We saw that with the latest earlier this year iPad Pro.
Support for 5G
The iPhone 12 must be Apple’s first device with support for it 5G turn into. This faster network technology will be used by many more providers from this year.
Recently, Dutch companies bought the necessary for 5G frequencies, so that the faster connection can be rolled out nationwide. Vodafone already offers 5G.
A14 chip
The iPhone 12 traditionally also gets a new chip: the A14. The chip is expected to be faster, offer nicer graphics, and may use power more efficiently.
The production of the A14 is interesting. Apple is committed to Macs with their own chips which means the A14 may also become the new MacBook Pro chip. This makes it powerful enough to control an ordinary computer, which the iPhone can in turn benefit from.
About the same price
This year, the price of the iPhone 12 would not be very different from usual. Analysts think Apple wants to maintain the same suggested retail price as the iPhone 11, with a new price point for the iPhone 12 Mini. This may be slightly cheaper than usual.
No earplugs and adapter in the box
Apple would make one sacrifice to keep the price low: the earplugs and power adapter would not included. That would make production slightly cheaper, while parts for Apple would have gone up in price.
The iPhone 12 does come with a power cable, which is braided this time. This makes it sturdier and more flexible than usual cords.
Unveiling in September
Apple is expected to release the iPhone 12 in September. There were some doubts about this, because the coronavirus caused delays in productions in China. However, the most recent rumors indicate that everything is back on track.
