This Ford GT Heritage Edition does NOT celebrate the 24 Hours of Le Mans

The Ford hat-trick at Le Mans in 1966 was not the GT40’s first victory in a 24-hour race. This one (already a hat-trick), came a few months earlier at Daytona, where the Ken Miles / Lloyd Ruby crew led almost from start to finish, relegating everyone to eight laps. You did see Le Mans 66 ? You know the story.

It is to this victory that the new Ford GT Heritage Edition pays tribute. Its white-red-black livery (including a raw carbon fiber front cover) in fact directly refers to the Mk II victorious in Florida 54 years ago. It is also distinguished by gold alloy rims (or carbon, optional), red Alcantara upholstery and red anodized steering wheel paddles. Production will be limited – as if it wasn’t already complicated enough to get your hands on a “standard” Ford GT – and the price even more astronomical than usual.

At the same time, Ford presented a catalog of customizable stickers, the “Studio Collection”. Designed by Garen Nicoghosian, Director of Design at Multimatic – the Canadian equipment manufacturer who designed the GT with Ford Performance, and has been building it since 2017 -, they propose to “ highlight key styling elements, including functional air intakes that help the 2021 Ford GT deliver all of its 669 hp during circuit sessions at the most demanding temperatures. Only 40 cars will be eligible for the car roll out of the Markham, Ontario plant over the next two years, before Ford GT production ends for good in 2022.

And if you’re not too keen on retro liveries, there is also the solution 100% raw coal, a safe bet …
