This astronomer warns of the potential for natural changes that could trigger the apocalypse

JAKARTA – An astronomer has warned of a potential change doomsday if the Earth stopped rotating. The event that could make the earth stop rotating is being hit by another planet and this possibility is very remote.

According to astronomer Jacco Van Loon, of Keele University, the reason why the Earth doesn’t stop spinning is that there is no force present to stop it.

“There is no friction in space that pushes the blue planet to slow its spin,” Van Loon was quoted as saying Express, Tuesday (25/1/2022).

According to Loon, the only celestial body that can actively slow down Earth is the moon. This is because the movement of the side of the earth facing the moon is not perfectly balanced by gravity.

“This imbalance is the force responsible for the tides, which make the oceans stand out on both sides of the Earth,” he said.

He warned that the only thing that could stop the earth from turning is if another planet crashes into it.

If this were to happen, the impact would most likely only change the way the Earth rotates and not stop it altogether.
