Favorite content or recommendations? Not interested or would you rather just take a break? Mosseri explains what feed settings are available to you.
Did you know that Instagram gives you different ways to take control of your feeds? Since March 2022, the Following and Favorites feeds have been available to you in addition to the Home feed; In his latest tweet, Instagram boss Adam Mosseri uncovers the “hidden gems” for feed settings and also provides a kind of tutorial including a video explanation. He tweets:
We want to make sure people have controls to shape IG into what works best for them.
After criticism: post and full-screen plans were stopped
Recently, users and social media stars like Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner called on Instagram to stop emulating TikTok. Shortly thereafter, Mosseri shared a video explaining the app’s recent changes. Shortly thereafter, Instagram announced that some planned changes would not be continued for the time being.
A spokesman for Meta said opposite BuzzFeedthat Instagram stopped a test that should display photos and videos in full screen. A temporary reduction in recommendations in user feeds has also been paused. The speaker explains:
We are aware that changes to the app can represent a change. While we believe Instagram needs to evolve as the world changes, we want to take the time to make sure we’re doing it right.
Mosseri provides an explanation of various feed functions
The Instagram boss responded to the criticism with further explanations – probably also to show users that Instagram can still be the Instagram they want. Further explanations follow on Twitter, for example which feed views and settings users can customize as they wish, namely the following feed and favorites feed as well as the settings not interested and snooze.
💎 Hidden Gems 💎 – Controls
We want to make sure people have controls to shape IG into what works best for them. Here are a few features that you can use to customize what you see on the app:
– Following Feed
– Favorites Feed
– Not Interested
– Snooze pic.twitter.com/LD537fMNdh– Adam Mosseri (@mosseri) August 10, 2022
He explains, for example, that users can select either the following or the favorites feed by clicking on the Instagram logo in the app. Regarding the Favorites Feed, he explains:
A Feed of Posts, or Photos and Videos from Accounts that you’ve decided to favorite. When you decided to favorite someone they‘re not notfied, if you unfavorite them, again they’re not notified. Now their posts will show up at the top of regular feed, whenever we can. But you can also got to a dedicated feed just of photos and videos of them.
You can also pause or block unwanted content. Mosseri explains:
So if you’re seeing recommendations in feed that you’re not interested in, you can tap on the three dots in the top right of that post and we we’ll do our best to not show your similar content in the future. And you can also tap snooze and see no recommendations for up to a month in case you just want a bit of a breather.
