A thief has run into officers in Doetinchem while fleeing from the police. They then fired several warning shots. The suspect drove his car out of the bend moments later.
The 42-year-old man from Zelhem was caught by the police stealing stuff on a construction site. When officers tried to arrest him, the suspect got into his car and drove into the police officers.
A chase ensued after the incident. The suspect lost control of the vehicle and his car overturned. The chasing police cars were not involved in the crash, police say.
The injured man was arrested and then taken to hospital. His injuries were caused by the accident, not the gunshots, a police spokesperson said. De Zelhemmer is suspected of attempted murder of police officers and of theft.
