Albacete’s urban transport service has received the UNE 170001-2 certificate, in recognition of the fact that the concessionary company, Vectalia, guarantees its universal accessibility, after the audit carried out by Aenor to the municipal bus fleet, during last December .
The fact that Aenor has certified that the service complies with the five key aspects for its accessibility, reflects that it offers all people, regardless of their age and mobility, the same possibilities of access to public transport and the use and enjoyment of the services it provides with the greatest possible autonomy.
All the canopies of the municipal urban transport network have the new stop indicators, to facilitate the reading and identification of the lines. The information of the service has also been updated on accessible APP platforms, so that all users of this service can consult the information through their mobile devices.
On board the vehicles, the new information system also uses audible signals to alert about the destination and next bus stop, which are added to the information that is offered visually, through a panoramic TFT screen. An improvement that has also been implemented on the service’s website (https://albacete.vectalia.es/), which has obtained the AA rating, for its accessibility and adaptation for the understanding of all its users.
The renewal of the fleet carried out by the Albacete City Council last February 2020 has made it possible for a third of the bus fleet to house two seats for people with reduced mobility.
In addition, improvements have been made in the vehicles in the areas of accessibility and information, such as the incorporation of color LED matrix signs on the front of the buses, the marking of unevenness inside the cabins, the guarantee in the access of guide dogs to the service, the provision of reserved seats or the renewal of the backrests in the places for people with reduced mobility.
In the Customer Service Office, located in the bus station, a comprehensive reform has also been undertaken, which meets the requirements of standard 170001 and the Dalco criteria (Ambulation-Apprehension-Location-Communication), equipping it with a double-height counter, a bench to wait for your turn or an automatic door, to facilitate entry to its interior. In order to obtain this universal accessibility certificate, the improvements made to the service have been key, after taking into account the opinions and contributions made by the associations that are part of the Municipal Council of People with Disabilities. This participation, coordinated through the Department of Attention to People, will continue to be crucial to incorporate future improvements to the service, aimed at continuing to guarantee its universal accessibility, reported from the Albacete City Council.
