“The works are progress and they must be carried out, but you always have to consider the time they take, how and when,” said the architect José Luis Cornago, who provided a critical look at the Rivadavia street underpass, announced by the minister Meoni.
The project whose tender was launched yesterday has been outdated because “twenty or twenty-five years ago, the frequency of the train was much higher than it is today.”

Among the possibilities, he said that “instead of Rivadavia street it could be Italia street, which would hinder the development of the work much less” in regard to the transit between the downtown area and the Belgrano neighborhood, because “it has been two years of works, in which the passage through the place will be closed ”.
Cornago said he did not know if there were prior consultations with local professional associations. In what he defined as “a personal opinion” he expressed that “there is still a lack of completion of works that are of much more importance.”
The closure to traffic “would bring economic consequences for the merchants of Rivadavia” which he doubted has been evaluated.
Transportation and priorities
The architect Cornago emphasized that “Currently there are other priorities in the city in terms of transport, such as the Bus Terminal, the Aerodrome and the construction of the bike path on the way to the Spa ” to which he added that “my opinion is shared by some colleagues with whom I have spoken.”
“A long time ago we presented a draft of the bike path, but it was never promoted, since this passes through a political and economic decision,” he said. “In this year, with the pandemic, people have turned a lot to cycling.”
Political role
Cornago, when asked about next year’s elections, stated that “I really want to participate; I feel willing, because I have many years and experience. We have been thinking with the people we are working with, although it does not despair me either, because I live from my profession.
He also highlighted that his work as a leader of the Sarmiento Club provided him with knowledge and experience.
He explained that he is currently a member of a group called Unidos, where people from “all parties” participate because “we understand that the diversity of ideas can lead to a good port.”
