The act is headed by the Executive Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez and the Sector Vice President for Communication, Culture and Tourism, Jorge Rodríguez, both sons of the distinguished revolutionary.

During the activity, the vice-president pointed out that in Venezuela the infinite example of Jorge Rodríguez Sr. is followed for the construction of Bolivarian socialism. “Jorge Rodríguez Sr. was a great fighter and fighter for revolutionary unity, that unit that Commander Chávez called us to.”

«To follow the infinite example that he (Jorge Rodríguez Sr.) has left in the construction of Bolivarian socialism, a fervent one in the construction of a society of equals, of a society of equals with social justice, of a society whose pillars were socialism and Bolivarianism », he said.

Delcy Rodríguez highlighted that the Bolivarian Revolution has redeemed the memory of Jorge Rodríguez Sr. “it has been our personal revenge paraphrasing the poems of Tomas Borges”, he stressed that the Bolivarian Revolution “is the best incentive for the soul because our father is present, the example that he gave us, and his training ».

For his part, the sectoral vice president for Communication, Culture and Tourism, Jorge Rodríguez, pointed out that this young man (Jorge Rodríguez Sr.) was determined to fight tirelessly for a better country and for the construction of socialism. He recalled his father’s exploits for national sovereignty.

“44 years ago, they raged against a man who traveled the entire national territory sowing the possibility of equality among humans, of justice in Venezuela, the possibility of the redemption of the world’s poor and of Venezuela (…) a young man of Spotless morals, he was beaten for 72 hours by minions from the Carlos Andrés Pérez government; thus, more than 5,000 Venezuelans were murdered by torture during the governments of the Fourth Republic in 1959 and 1999 ».

Jorge Antonio Rodríguez Sr. was born on February 16, 1942 in Carora, Lara state, in his youth he had responsibilities in the student direction of the Federation of University Centers (FCU) and as a delegate of the University Council in 1966 when he was 24 years old.

Rodríguez stood out for being an activist against the closure of the university and was in favor of the University Renewal Movement, created on June 18, 1968.

In 1972, he was arrested by the SIFA (Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces) and was subjected to torture for 72 hours, which caused his death.
