The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States investigates a “Small group” of those infected with the new coronavirus in northern California who were passengers on a Grand Princess cruise ship that traveled from San Francisco to Mexico in February, including one who died Wednesday in a hospital.
The Grand Princess medical director said the ship is offshore off the Mexican Pacific coast and will not make a planned stopover in Ensenada, to return directly to San Francisco, where CDC officials and cruise officers will meet to determine The actions to follow. He said that passengers who sailed on the trip from February 11 to 21 and are currently on the ship will have to remain in their cabins until they are examined by medical personnel.
The ship is expected to arrive in San Francisco on Thursday.
Health officials said a Placer County resident who was on the February trip died Wednesday, at the first death attributed to Covid-19 in California.
They added that a Sonoma County resident who was also on the trip and contracted the virus is in stable condition in a hospital.
