The Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance (MSPAS), reported that this Monday in the Maguíla I village of the municipality of Fray Bartolomé de las Casas, Alta Verapaz, incidents were registered because local residents do not agree with the vaccination against Covid- 19.

The incidents would have derived from the fact that one of the residents presented secondary symptoms after the immunization and the residents of the place considered that they were health problems caused by the drug.

For this reason, 11 nurses were detained by the community members, who also destroyed the vaccine bottles carried by the health personnel and threatened to burn them if the person in charge of that District from the Ministry of Health did not arrive.

The Government reported that the security forces came to the scene to initiate a dialogue with community leaders and about 500 people who were protesting against the vaccination day.

In addition, the Ministry of Health shared a video with the testimony of one of the nurses, who mentioned that they were afraid of what happened and that they came to the community to promote immunization and inject whoever wanted it because it is a voluntary action .

OPPOSE VACCINATION

According to the inhabitants of the Maguíla village, they oppose the installation of vaccination posts after one of the residents who was vaccinated presented “side effects of the vaccine, which were interpreted as health problems.”

In this context, the community members “stripped the vaccinators of their cell phones, punctured the tires of the vehicle in which they were transported, and blocked the community’s entrances and exits with cutters and stones,” the Health Ministry reported.

In addition, through an act, the leaders of these sectors of Alta Verapaz showed their rejection of the residents of their communities being immunized against the disease Covid-19, retaining health workers for about 7 hours, then they were released.

“Among the health personnel, there are women who were attacked by community members,” Salud highlighted.
