The Union of Medical Workers of the Salvadoran Institute of Social Security (SIMETRISSS) denounced that the Salvadoran Institute of Social Security (ISSS) has given instructions for general surgeons to perform orthopedic surgery procedures, something that the secretary of the union, Dr. Rafael Aguirre, he regretted, for the harm it may cause to patients.
SIMETRISSS denounced on social networks that the ISSS is ordering operations from subspecialists to general surgeons, due to the lack of specialists.
“Due to history, academic training and expertise, major amputations (above and below the knee) have been performed in the ISSS and in most national hospitals by orthopedists, these being the top subspecialists to perform said procedure” recalled the leader of the ISSS doctors’ union.
