The case against Placencia began in 2015 when two victims revealed sexual abuse, which occurred when they were minors. In 2017, three other family members revealed that the accused had sexually assaulted them when they were between 7 and 12 years.

During the investigation, Placencia fled to Mexico, where he was subsequently arrested and extradited to the United States in 2019 to face the charges.

The 275 years of sentence correspond to guilt in eight charges for committing lewd acts against children under 14, five charges of committing lewd acts using threats, force, coercion or fear against children under 14 years, and an additional charge for committing a lewd act against a child of 14 or 15 years.

The jury also considered true the accusation that Placencia committed the crimes against more than one victim.

According to the indictment, Sinigur told a family member in 2018 that he had been abusing children, and the person denounced the man to the authorities.
