They call to donate to those with O-negative blood

Do you know what blood type you have?…Very few know that answer, which you have to take into consideration, because you could be one of the few people in the country who has blood O-negative.

According to the doctor Aurora Leedirector of State Center for Blood Transfusiononly 3 percent of the Mexican population has this blood type and there are very few who altruistically donate their liquid tissue in case someone else needs it.

“Normally it is a blood that we struggle to obtain, the O-negative donors are very few, as are the patients, but in a situation of chance where several patients in our hospitals who require this blood come together, well, yes we go to see more concerned to get this type of blood, “he said.

Historically, the state blood bank has had a low pool of this blood type, so when there is high demand for need, Donation campaigns are intensifying, but doctors are also analyzing whether it is feasible to transfuse another type.

“When there are situations where patients require many units, such as in a transplant, up to 10 units of blood are used, then it is complicated. There the doctors are the ones who can decide if another type of compatible blood can be transfused, ”she added.

In Nuevo León there is a club of donors of this type, which waits with open doors for those who have this same blood to make altruistic donations and in cases of emergency.

“Hopefully and people who are of type O-negative blood decide to donate to have a sufficient supply and that they could donate twice a year on a fixed basis so as not to be unprotected,” he pleaded.
