The neighbors of Paseo Germanías have created a platform to prevent the demolition of the Cross of the Fallen that presides over the neighborhood square. In turn, they have convened a demonstration next Friday, June 4 in which they will demand the non-demolition of the monolith built and inaugurated in 1944 during the Franco dictatorship.
The remodeling and reform of the square in which the sculpture is located is the main reason why the City Council of Elche intends to carry out its demolition. Nevertheless, Enrique Molina, representative of the platform neighbors, assures that, although they do not want to generate a confrontation, the demolition of the cross supposes the violation of citizens’ rights.
